Heat of fusion for ice lab

Heat of Fusion for Ice Lab

Purpose: Determine the mass of 100mL of h2o, find the qhot h2o, qice, find mass of ice melted, and mass of ice, and find H fusion for ice in kj/mol.

Calculations:
100mL•1g/1mL=100g h2o           50mL=50g•1mol/18g=2.7 mol
qhot=100g•0-50•4.8j/gc°             24kj/2.7= H=8.8 kj/mol
qice=-24000
qhot=+24000

Conclusion:
Mass of 100mL is 100g of h2o, the qhot is 24000 the qice is -24000, the mass of ice melted and ice is 50g, the H fusion for ice is 8.8 kj/mol.

Errors:
The H fusion was off, we added 3 extra ice cubes so the mass of the ice melted increased, not giving us the exact amount of the H fusion.
